Improving the Quality of Short Lives
The Facts
What We Do
Wonder Wards is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation that aims to improve the quality of life for children and young people suffering from life-limiting conditions. This is achieved by providing grants to children’s hospitals/hospices; granting wishes to the children; and financially supporting the families of those children and young people suffering from life-limiting conditions.
WONDER WARDS
PROVIDING THE LITTLE THINGS THAT MEAN A LOT
Our purpose is to improve the quality of life for children with life-limiting conditions, whilst also helping their families financially where needed.
Wonder Wards aims to improve the quality of life for children suffering from life-limiting conditions by, but not exclusively:
• giving grants to hospital/hospice wards (and families) to refurbish or renovate wards and bedrooms, so that their own funds can be focused on medical and emotional care;
• granting wishes to the children and young people; and
• financially aiding struggling families, whether it is car parking costs at hospitals, or during times of festivities such as birthdays and festive holidays.
Here at Wonder Wards, we believe the quality of life is just as important as the quality of care. Anything Wonder Wards can do for children with life-limiting conditions and their families, we will do. We believe these children and their families should go without NOTHING.
There are many great charities out there that raise funds for the palliative care of these children. But Wonder Wards focuses on the physical aspects of life, providing the little things that mean a lot. So that, all of those aforementioned charities, can focus on the medical and emotional care. We believe that it is not only this care and medication that can prolong life but also the quality of life itself.
The Charity was inspired by the late Derry Heffer. Who would purchase a toy every time she went grocery shopping? She would collect the toys throughout the year, then wrap them and take them into a children’s ward at Easter and Christmas. Her kindness put smiles on the faces of sick children and young people for many years. Now that Derry has sadly passed, Wonder Wards would like to continue with her legacy. But we require your support.
Any small amount you can spare, even just £1, whether it be a one-off donation or recurring monthly support, will go a long way to helping us bring a degree of quality, to the short lives of children and young people suffering from a life-limiting condition.
The team at Wonder Wards thank you for your support.
